Hannah G. Solomon Award

Pauline Kress and Carmen Miller Michael were honored with the Hannah G. Solomon Award, named for NCJW’s founder and presented to members who have changed the lives of others through leadership and service, who have helped expand the role of women, and whose leadership in areas of NCJW concern has motivated others to work for change and has resulted in progress and enlightenment in the community.

Carmen is a visionary leader whose many years of
involvement with NCJW includes service as the first president of Evening Branch. She has broken barriers as a woman volunteer and professional and she has also been an instigator and catalyst for positive change in many community endeavors, with a focus on mental health issues.

Janis Levine Music Make-A-Difference Award – Randi Smerud
Randi Smerud received the Janis Levine Music Make a Difference Award which honors the memory of Janis Levine Music, an NCJW leader who gave of herself with dignity and kindness of spirit. Randi has held leadership positions for NCJW as Vice President of Public Relations, Vice President of Fundraising, Fundraising Event Co-Chair, PACE Committee Co-Chair, and Chair of the Nominating Committee, to name a few. more information →
Emerging Leader Award – Caren Edelstein

Caren Edelstein was recognized with the prestigious Emerging Leader Award. A longtime member who took time off from active participation while raising a family and pursuing a career, Caren has now re-emerged and demonstrated her commitment to NCJW and her future leadership potential. In 2010, she chaired Greater Dallas Section’s delegation to Washington Institute and in 2011, she co-chaired NCJW Dallas’ contingent at Day on the Hill, a day of advocacy in Austin. Caren currently serves the Section as Co-Vice President of Public Affairs and is also actively involved in development of a project for Higher Ground, NCJW’s domestic violence campaign.
